Jules Rizzo is an Ohio-based dancer and choreographer, currently dancing with Whirlwind Dance in Columbus, Ohio, as well as teaching dance, yoga, and Zumba around the Columbus area. She recently graduated from Denison University, where she majored in Dance and English with a concentration in Creative Writing. Previously, Jules has had the amazing opportunity of working under Dancing Wheels Company and earning her Level 1 Physically Integrated Dance Teacher Certification. Before her time at Dancing Wheels, she studied with En Dance Studio in Shibuya, Japan in the styles of contemporary and jazz. Jules has choreographed work for independent films, Denison University students, and in the Columbus community for Whirlwind Dance’s duet show this past fall, “Me, You, Us,” and a gallery open at Blockfort Gallery for the exhibition “Vessels in Blue.” She primarily focuses on contemporary dance, with influences from jazz, modern, and capoeira, and finds inspiration from seeing connections between people in all walks of life. Jules is interested in works that have a strong focus on interpersonal relationships, shown through both physical contact and eye contact as a way to foster a sense of connection and community through dancers of all backgrounds and abilities.
